Playing the tuba is the most recent addition to Jan-Piet’s musical activities, although he picked up the
baritone horn at the time he prepared for the Bach Competition in Lausanne,
and has since tried his hands on the trombone as well.
As tubaist (on B-flat, E-flat, or sousaphone) he plays with the Diamond Jubilators, a jazz band that aims at
enhancing people’s lives and well-being using mainly jazz and popular songs from the 1920s through the 1940s.
All the members of the band are students of Dr. John Diamond in using music for health, and most
have completed five or more years of training through the Institute for Music and Health.
The band has performed extensively in nursing homes
and senior citizens' homes. Recent highlights have been two performances in Correctional Facilities in Napanoch
(a maximum-security facility) and Woodbourn, NY. In his 30-year experience as a performing musician, with performances
at some of the world's most prestigious stages for classical music, JP has never seen such great audiences before.
